The U.S. Brig Niagara left the safety of Presque Isle on July 4, 1813 to enter what is now known as the War of 1812's Battle of Lake Erie. Eventually becoming Commodore O.H. Perry's flagship, the Brig Niagara played a pivotal role in breaking British lines and seizing the victory for the U.S.
